In cities, the share of living space equipped with running water decreased from 73.1% in 2023 to 68.8% in 2024. A similar decline was observed in sewerage, from 64.1% to 59.2%, and in central heating, from 34.6% to 32.7%. The provision of baths and showers declined particularly sharply, from 34.7% to 29.8%.
The situation in rural areas remains much more difficult. In 2024, only 15.3% of living space was equipped with running water, compared to 16.8% a year earlier. The share of housing with sewerage has fallen to 6.3%, with central heating to 2.8%, and with hot water supply to 2.1%. Gasification in villages has declined over five years from 14.9% in 2020 to 9.3% in 2024.
Thus, despite the growth in housing construction, the level of its engineering equipment in a number of segments is not only not improving, but is also showing the opposite trend. The gap between urban and rural areas in terms of access to basic utilities remains significant.
