Almaty examines Bishkek’s waste management system

As part of a working visit to Kyrgyzstan, a delegation from the city of Almaty, led by Deputy Mayor Olzhas Smagulov, visited a waste-to-energy plant in Bishkek.

The delegation included representatives from the Department of Entrepreneurship and Investment and the Department of Ecology and the Environment of Almaty, as well as representatives from investment and environmental organisations.

The delegation was given a tour of the plant by Ramiz Aliyev, Deputy Mayor of Bishkek. During the visit, the participants familiarised themselves with the plant’s production facilities and modern technologies for the sorting, processing and energy recovery of solid municipal waste.

Representatives of the plant presented existing environmental solutions and spoke about the waste management mechanisms and environmental safety measures in place. Particular attention was paid to the introduction of modern technologies in the field of municipal solid waste management and the development of environmental infrastructure.

The working visit took the form of an exchange of experience and a discussion of modern approaches in the field of environmental protection and sustainable urban development.
