Bishkek proved to be cheaper than Almaty and Tashkent, but still ranked among the most expensive cities in Central Asia

B Bishkek is among the top five cities in Central Asia with the highest cost of living index. In the ranking compiled by the internationalB  platform Numbeo, our capital came fourth after Almaty, Astana and Tashkent.

According to data from the international service Numbeo, Bishkek scored 29.9 points on the cost of living index and came fourth among the five largest cities in Central Asia.

Almaty took first place in the ranking with a cost of living index of 38.7 points. Astana came second with 32.8 points, whilst Tashkent took third place with 30.7 points. Dushanbe had the lowest score among the cities featured, at 28.7 points.

Based on the combined cost of living and rent index, Bishkek also came fourth with a score of 22.1 points. By way of comparison, Almaty’s score was 28.4 points, Astana’s was 23.6 points, and Tashkent’s was 22.8 points.

The food price index in Bishkek stood at 30.3 points, whilst the restaurant price index was 27.5 points.

Numbeo’s calculations are based on the cost of living in New York, which is assigned a value of 100 points. Bishkek’s score of 29.9 points means that the average level of everyday expenses taken into account in the city is approximately three times lower than in New York.
