Kyrgyzstan's share in the Central Asia-China alliance will be 10%

The Jogorku Kenesh has received for consideration a draft law on ratification of the agreement on the establishment of a permanent secretariat of the Central Asia-China cooperation format. The document, signed on April 1 in Bishkek, defines the order of financing and work of the new coordinating body.

The permanent secretariat, the creation of which was initiated following the Summit of Heads of State in Xi'an in 2023, will organize meetings, prepare documents and coordinate joint projects. Special attention will be paid to the development of trade, economic and investment cooperation in the region.

According to the draft agreement, Kyrgyzstan as a participant of the format will bear 10% of the financial burden of maintaining the secretariat. China will bear the bulk of the costs (60%), while the other Central Asian countries - Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan - will also contribute 10% each.

Kyrgyzstan's financial obligations will amount to $337,000 in the first year of the secretariat's work and $287,000 annually in subsequent years. The Ministry of Finance emphasizes that these costs have already been provided for in the national budget.

The bill does not require changes in national legislation and, according to experts, will allow Kyrgyzstan to strengthen its position in the system of multilateral cooperation with China and neighboring countries of Central Asia. After consideration in Parliament, the document will be submitted to the President for signature.
