Naira Karapetyan, Director of the Department of Agro-Industrial Policy of the Eurasian Economic Commission, presented an overview of the state of the agricultural sector in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union to the meeting participants. She emphasised that the level of self-sufficiency in food products among EAEU countries remains high, and that integration in the agricultural sector opens up new opportunities for increasing productivity and expanding mutual supplies.
‘Taking into account the close trade and economic ties between the CIS and EEU countries, I am confident that further cooperation in the agro-industrial sector will allow us to realise the potential of integration associations to increase mutual supplies of agricultural products and strengthen food security in the Eurasian space,’ Karapetyan noted.
Following the meeting, the main areas of joint work for the medium term were identified, including sustainable agricultural development and the formation of effective agri-food systems.
The event was attended by the ministers of agriculture of the CIS countries, representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), as well as relevant experts.
