Master plan: Bishkek to become an agglomeration with Kara-Balta and Tokmok

The developers of the Bishkek master plan held another discussion on strategic issues of the country's comprehensive spatial development. The main topic of the meeting was the role of the capital as a key driver of Kyrgyzstan's economic and social growth.

Experts noted that priority development should be ensured not only for Bishkek, but also for the city of Osh and other centres of the country. Particular attention was paid to the agglomeration links between the capital and Kara-Balta, Tokmok, Voenno-Antonovka and other settlements in the Chui region.

‘The city of Bishkek is the main driver of the country. The active development of the capital will create a comprehensive multiplier effect and will be decisive for the formation of the Bishkek agglomeration,’ emphasised Olga Druzhina, head of the urban planning economics department at the Research Institute of Urban Planning.

Among the tasks discussed were providing the capital with qualified personnel, preserving and developing industrial zones, and strengthening food security in the context of population growth.

The developers assured that all proposals collected at such meetings would be taken into account in the design solutions.
