08/01/2025, 14:41Kyrgyzstan is once again demonstrating strong momentum in attracting foreign direct investment. According to data from the National Statistical Committee, FDI amounted to $288.3 million in the first quarter of 2025, almost 44% more than in the same period last year.
The main increase came from countries outside the CIS – $173.1 million compared to $115.2 million from CIS countries. China remains the main investor in the republic among countries outside the CIS, having invested $66.3 million during this period, while Russia is the main investor among CIS countries, with a contribution of almost $56 million.
However, against the backdrop of a stable pool of investors, some unexpected players have appeared in the statistics. For example, Qatar, which a year ago showed virtually no investment activity, invested $8,800 in Kyrgyzstan this year. Despite the modest absolute volume, this led to four-digit growth in percentage terms — the low base effect made itself felt.
Neighbouring countries and new Asian partners also demonstrated impressive growth rates. Uzbekistan invested $5.1 million, a more than 20-fold increase compared to the same period in 2024 ($236,900 a year earlier). India allocated $1.9 million (compared to $91,000), an increase of almost 2,000% year-on-year.
