Qatar, Uzbekistan and India have increased their direct investment in Kyrgyzstan the most

Kyrgyzstan is once again demonstrating strong momentum in attracting foreign direct investment. According to data from the National Statistical Committee, FDI amounted to $288.3 million in the first quarter of 2025, almost 44% more than in the same period last year.

The main increase came from countries outside the CIS – $173.1 million compared to $115.2 million from CIS countries. China remains the main investor in the republic among countries outside the CIS, having invested $66.3 million during this period, while Russia is the main investor among CIS countries, with a contribution of almost $56 million.

However, against the backdrop of a stable pool of investors, some unexpected players have appeared in the statistics. For example, Qatar, which a year ago showed virtually no investment activity, invested $8,800 in Kyrgyzstan this year. Despite the modest absolute volume, this led to four-digit growth in percentage terms — the low base effect made itself felt.

Neighbouring countries and new Asian partners also demonstrated impressive growth rates. Uzbekistan invested $5.1 million, a more than 20-fold increase compared to the same period in 2024 ($236,900 a year earlier). India allocated $1.9 million (compared to $91,000), an increase of almost 2,000% year-on-year.
