Kyrgyzstan and IOM discuss expansion of migration programs and digital solutions for migrant workers

Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeenbek Kulubaev met with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Amy Pope. The talks took place on May 27 in Bishkek.

The Kyrgyz foreign minister noted the importance of partnership with the IOM and expressed gratitude for the organization's support to the country in the field of migration. Key areas of cooperation include developing dialogue with host countries, opening legal channels for labor migration, and introducing digital solutions to increase the transparency and security of migration processes.

Kulubaev separately emphasized the importance of the center for pre-departure training of migrants and the pilot program “Mekenim 1+1,” which helps returning migrants start businesses in the regions. He proposed expanding the initiative to the whole country.

Amy Pope confirmed IOM's readiness to continue providing technical support, including for digital projects. The parties positively assessed the implementation of the Joint Work Plan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the IOM for 2023–2025, which introduced the “Electronic Consul” system, an online service for Kyrgyz citizens abroad.
