Kyrgyzstan and Russia discussed issues relating to labour migration and the protection of migrants

Kyrgyzstan and Russia discussed current issues relating to labour migration and the social protection of Kyrgyz citizens working in Russia.

Today, 16 July, the 18th meeting of the Joint Kyrgyz–Russian Working Group on Labour Issues and the Social Protection of Migrant Workers took place. The meeting took place via videoconference at the premises of the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Migration of Kyrgyzstan.

Representatives of the relevant government bodies from both countries took part in the meeting.

The Kyrgyz delegation was led by Mirlanbek Baygonchokov, Deputy Minister of Labour, Social Security and Migration. The Russian side was represented by Kirill Adzinov, Deputy Head of the Service for Citizenship and Registration of Foreign Nationals at the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and Head of the Department for Permits and Visas.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed the implementation of the decisions taken at the working group’s previous meeting, exchanged up-to-date statistics and discussed the current situation in the field of migration.

The main focus was on issues relating to the legal status of Kyrgyz citizens in Russia, changes in the legislation of both countries, and problems arising in connection with migrants’ employment.

Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their intention to continue working together to resolve pressing issues and ensure the social and legal protection of migrant workers.

Kyrgyzstan and Russia regulate matters relating to the employment of their citizens on the basis of the agreement on employment and social protection of migrant workers, signed in 1996.
