According to data from the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry, Kyrgyzstan has been self-sufficient in six out of nine socially significant food products for nine months.

The ministry specifies that the country fully meets its demand for potatoes, milk, meat, vegetables, eggs and sugar.

The remaining three types of products — bakery products (cereals), vegetable oil, fruits and berries — are partially supplied through imports.

Since 2024, Kyrgyzstan has been completely self-sufficient in sugar, which was previously also imported from abroad.

As for meat, the country is completely self-sufficient in beef and lamb. Work is actively continuing to achieve complete self-sufficiency in poultry meat.

At the same time, meat prices in neighbouring countries — Uzbekistan and Tajikistan — are significantly higher. Therefore, farmers and livestock breeders exported these products in order to make more profit. However, in order to stabilise meat prices, the state took timely measures: a ban on meat exports was introduced and state control over prices was established.

At the same time, due to the growth of domestic chicken egg production, their import was banned. Currently, Kyrgyzstan not only fully provides itself with chicken eggs, but also exports them. For example, between August and January 2025, 3.3 million eggs were exported.
