11/13/2025, 10:12According to the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry, Kyrgyzstan is fully self-sufficient in beef and lamb. At the same time, poultry meat is imported under a quota — 58,000 tonnes were supplied in 2025, and 48,000 tonnes are expected in 2026.
The term of state regulation of meat prices (beef and lamb, except for boneless meat) has been extended until 31 December 2025.
This decision was made in order to prevent a sharp rise in prices, prevent speculation, stabilise the situation on the domestic meat market and ensure the availability of socially significant products for the population.
According to Ulan Chekirbaev, head of the food security department at the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry, measures are being taken to maintain price stability amid persistently high inflation both globally and in Kyrgyzstan.
«Meat is one of the main food products in Kyrgyzstan. Therefore, we must keep its price stable. Currently, the cost of beef and lamb is about 600-700 soms per kilogram. Efforts are being made to maintain this level. This is especially important for socially vulnerable groups», , — Chekirbaev said.
In addition, livestock exports have been temporarily suspended to ensure sufficient meat supplies in the domestic market.
The ministry notes that the measures taken are aimed at maintaining the stability of the domestic market and protecting the interests of citizens.
