Kyrgyzstan is strengthening its position in the energy sector through cooperation with Tatarstan

Kyrgyzstan is stepping up its cooperation with Tatarstan, focusing not only on importing technology but also on developing its own industrial and educational infrastructure in the energy sector.

The talks took place during the EnergoProm forum in Kazan, where Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Energy Taalaybek Ibraev met with the Head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov. The parties discussed the development of joint projects in the energy sector, industry and technical education.

As Minnikhanov noted, the foundations for this cooperation were laid earlier — as part of agreements reached at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum. Cooperation is already underway in the area of personnel training. 340 students from Kyrgyzstan are currently studying engineering and technical subjects at universities in Tatarstan, and there are plans to increase this number.

For his part, Ibraev emphasised that Kyrgyz specialists are already undertaking practical training at modern energy and industrial facilities, gaining access to technologies and management models. This applies not only to the energy sector, but also to related industries — mechanical engineering, chemistry and environmental projects.

Thus, Kyrgyzstan gains access to technologies for operating energy systems and industrial production; the training of engineering personnel focused on real-world projects is strengthened; the foundations are laid for the localisation of production – from electrical equipment to components; and the opportunity arises to develop industrial parks and technology hubs based on proven models

In the long term, this reduces dependence on imported technology and strengthens the country’s position as a participant in the regional industrial and energy market.
