03/31/2025, 09:28Kyrgyzstan is taking a loan of €14.74 million to purchase trolleybuses for the city of Osh, with €5 million provided in the form of a grant. This was reported by the deputy of Jogorku Kenesh Dastan Bekeshev in his Telegram channel.
He noted that a corresponding application was submitted back in October 2024. However, in parallel, the Bishkek mayor's office stated that trolleybuses are outdated, costly and unecological mode of transport. The deputy disagreed with this position, emphasising that in many cities around the world, on the contrary, this transport is developing.
Dastan Bekeshev also recalled that in 2018 Bishkek had already taken a loan from the EBRD for the purchase of trolleybuses, but subsequently the capital dismantled the contact networks and refused to operate them. Now, according to the MP, it remains unclear who and how to repay this loan. He intends to raise this issue with the Ministry of Finance.
‘It is sad that in one city they break and in another they build,’ Bekeshev summarised.
Recall that in 2024 there was much controversy over the decision of the capital's mayor's office to abandon trolleybuses.
