06/13/2025, 10:13Kyrgyzstan has been unanimously re-elected as chair of the Council on Paperless Trade of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The decision was taken during the 4th session of the Council, held this week in Bangkok.
Kyrgyzstan's re-election reflects recognition of its active and consistent role in promoting digital trade mechanisms, as well as its contribution to strengthening regional cooperation in the field of cross-border e-commerce.
The event was attended by representatives of member states, international organizations, and technical agencies. The main topic of the meeting was to discuss progress in the digitization of trade procedures, electronic data exchange, and the development of common digital standards for paperless trade in the region.
On the sidelines of the forum, Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce Sultan Akhmatov held a bilateral meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General and ESCAP Executive Secretary Armida Salsyho Alisdzhabana. During the meeting, the parties discussed expanding regional participation in paperless trade systems, mutual recognition of electronic trade documents, and support for the implementation of Kyrgyzstan's National Trade Facilitation Plan (TFP) for 2025–2027.
Following the talks, an agreement was reached on ESCAP Secretariat assistance in implementing Kyrgyzstan's national initiatives.
At the end of the meeting, Sultan Akhmatov invited Ms. Alisjaban and the ESCAP delegation to participate in the CAREC High-Level Ministerial Meeting to be held in Kyrgyzstan in November this year.
