The International Organization for Migration will help open a migrant support center in Osh

The Ministry of Labor and the International Organization for Migration Mission in Kyrgyzstan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation providing for the opening of a new Pre-Departure Orientation and Reintegration Center (PDORC) for migrants in the city of Osh.

The document was signed on February 3 in Bishkek during a working meeting between Deputy Minister of Labor Bakyt Darmankul uulu and IOM Mission Chief in Kyrgyzstan Serhan Aktoprak.

During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues in the field of migration, including the protection of the rights of migrant workers, the development of international cooperation, and raising public awareness of legal channels for employment abroad.

According to the Memorandum, the new center in Osh will be responsible for:

  • conducting pre-departure training programs and consultations;
  • providing information on safe and legal ways to find employment;
  • organizing information sessions for future migrants;
  • supporting and reintegrating citizens who have returned to their homeland.

It is expected that the work of the CPOiR will reduce the risks of illegal employment, labor exploitation, and violations of the rights of Kyrgyz citizens abroad.

In addition, during the meeting, the participation of the Kyrgyz delegation in the International Forum on Migration, chaired by the President of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Annelena Berbock, was discussed, where it is planned to present a national report on the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Legal Migration.
