The EPR mechanism is designed to ensure that as much waste as possible is recycled, returned to the economic cycle and used for the production of secondary materials.
The Ministry of Natural Resources notes that one of the key conditions for the system to work effectively is the development of separate waste collection. The ministry is calling for waste sorting to begin at the household level and for an environmental culture to be fostered from an early age.
“Only the separate collection of waste in its pure form and its transfer to recycling companies can ensure high-quality recycling, the monitoring of waste generation and the determination of its composition,” the ministry stated.
As part of the reform, the regulatory framework for waste management has been updated. Going forward, the Ministry of Natural Resources intends to develop the recycling sector for all types of waste, including those that are difficult to recycle, using modern green technologies.
The ministry believes that developing recycling will reduce the burden on the environment, conserve natural resources and, at the same time, create conditions for the development of environmental entrepreneurship and the green economy.
