Ministry of Labour Announces Victory Day Payments for WWII Veterans

On April 18, the President of Kyrgyzstan signed a decree on increasing monthly compensations for veterans of the Great Patriotic War, participants of the Afghan campaign and liquidators of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident. The document has already been submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers - the relevant decree is being prepared by the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Migration.

After the approval of the decree, recalculations will take effect retroactively - from January 1, 2025. This decision is aimed at strengthening social support for citizens, whose health and fate were directly affected by wars and man-made disasters of the last century. According to official wording, the measure is due to a “natural decrease in the number” of recipients - the state is increasing payments to those who remain.

As of April 1, 2025 in Kyrgyzstan, 36 thousand 91 people from 26 privileged categories receive monthly cash compensations instead of benefits. In the first quarter, 215.4 million soms were spent from the republican budget for this purpose.

In particular, payments of 17 thousand soms are received monthly by:

  • 13 participants of the Great Patriotic War,
  • 1 disabled war veteran,
  • 7 former juvenile prisoners of concentration camps,
  • 11 people awarded the medal “For the Defense of Leningrad” and the sign “Resident of the Siege of Leningrad”.

This amount includes:

  • 7 thousand soms - monetary compensation in lieu of benefits,
  • 3 thousand soms - a lifetime presidential stipend,
  • 7 thousand soms - a supplement to this scholarship.

Also on the eve of May 9, the state will allocate an additional 7.3 million soms for one-time payments. The amounts depend on the category of the recipient:

  • 20 thousand 600 soms - to disabled veterans of the Great Patriotic War,
  • 20 thousand 400 soms - to participants of the war, former prisoners of concentration camps and those awarded for the defense of Leningrad,
  • 15,200 soms - to widows of soldiers killed during the war,
  • 15,100 soms to home front workers who have orders and medals of the USSR.

In this way the state tries to express gratitude to those who went through the war and remind that their feat is not forgotten - even if the figures in the budget are more restrained than words.
