Almost all of the republic's production waste is concentrated in Issyk-Kul

The Concept of Sustainable Development of the Issyk-Kul Ecological and Economic System until 2030, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, cites data from the National Statistics Committee that looks alarming: the region accounts for 97.7% of all production and consumption waste in the country — 2.9 billion tonnes per year. Almost all of this waste comes from mineral extraction, which accounts for about 98.7%.

In 2023, the region added another 190 million 975.4 thousand tonnes of waste, which is 84.5% of the national level. Solid waste disposal reached 102.9 thousand tonnes, and the summer increase in indicators confirms the seasonal load on the region's infrastructure.

The document emphasises that without the creation of new processing capacities, the introduction of plastic recycling and modern disposal methods, the region risks facing further deterioration of its natural areas. Effective waste management is becoming not just a task, but a condition for maintaining the ecological stability and sustainable development of the region.
