09/12/2025, 16:18On 10 September, the National Bank's Board decided to extend the suspension of the ‘temporary procedure’ for transactions with the Kazakh tenge, introduced back in 2022, until 15 March 2026.
It should be recalled that in March 2022, the National Bank introduced restrictions whereby the purchase rate of the tenge could not exceed 70% of the official rate, and banks and MFOs could not hold more than 1% of their capital in tenge. These measures were taken to stabilise the currency market during the crisis.
However, the restrictions were suspended in June this year. Now the suspension has been extended for another six months. This means that the restrictions remain effectively lifted, which means that:
Thus, until March 2026, the market for transactions with the Kazakh tenge in Kyrgyzstan will continue to operate freely, without the artificial restrictions that have been in place since 2022.
