01/22/2025, 17:55On 22 January, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, MP Kubanychbek Samakov expressed doubts about the Ministry of Energy's calculations for the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 project. He noted that the $5 million allocated to update the feasibility study was not enough, and now requires additional funding of $13.6 million.
The MP asked the representatives of the Ministry of Energy.
‘Who will be responsible for the erroneous calculations and for the fact that the original amount was calculated incorrectly?’ he asked.
In response, Deputy Energy Minister Nurlan Sadykov explained that at the initial stage of the work there was no clarity on the scope of the necessary studies. He specified that in 2014 feasibility studies were developed by Canadian and Russian companies using other methods. At the moment, modelling and additional work on topography is being carried out, which led to an increase in the cost of the project.
