About 70% of meat enters Kyrgyzstan from Kazakhstan

Today, 24 February, at the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee considered the draft Law of the Kyrgyz Republic ‘On Amendments to the Law on Food Security’. The draft law was presented by the Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry Janybek Kerimaliev.

The purpose of the bill is to meet domestic demand for socially important food products of own production. It is proposed to strengthen the role of import substitution and increase the importance of domestic production to ensure food security of the country.

During the discussion, MP Chingiz Aidarbekov raised the issue of quality control of imported poultry meat, pointing to cases of antibiotics detected in chicken meat. He suggested strengthening veterinary control. In response, Janybek Kerimaliev noted that about 70% of meat comes to Kyrgyzstan from Kazakhstan, and all batches undergo the necessary laboratory tests.

MP Altynbek Kylychbaev drew attention to the problem of the lack of a mechanism for marketing domestic products. As a result of the discussion, the bill was approved in the first reading.
