In his speech, he noted that the world economic centre of gravity is shifting to the Asia-Pacific region. According to international experts, Asia accounted for 52 per cent of global GDP growth between 2010 and 2020, as well as a significant part of global trade and manufacturing growth. In this dynamic, Kyrgyzstan has an opportunity to play an important role as a logistics hub for the Eurasian continent.
Akylbek Zhaparov stressed the historical significance of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project launched on 27 December 2024 with the participation of the leaders of the three states. According to him, this railway line will become a modern ‘Iron Silk Road’ connecting about 4 billion people and significantly expanding the transport geography between Asia and Europe.
‘The practical realisation of this route has already begun, construction work has started. This project is not just a transport artery, but a strategic bridge that will provide new economic opportunities for the entire region,’ the former head said.
He also noted Kyrgyzstan's success in implementing the One Belt, One Road initiative and expressed support for the concepts of global development, security and civilisation proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. According to him, China serves as an example of successful reforms that have allowed millions of people to rise out of poverty and strengthen the country's economy.
Speaking of Kyrgyzstan's economic development, Zhaparov cited key indicators over the past three years: average annual GDP growth of 9%, the country's budget nearly tripled, income growth, and an active fight against corruption and the shadow economy. He noted that the reforms launched under the leadership of President Sadyr Zhaparov have already brought tangible results, and the country is facing an important task - the elimination of poverty.
On logistics and infrastructure, Zhaparov emphasised the importance of Central Asia's transport corridors for international trade. He noted that countries in the region should consider their geographical position as a strategic advantage, and Kyrgyzstan intends to use the Southern Trans-Caspian route to strengthen trade ties with Europe.
‘We see great potential in the development of new transport routes, including railway transport, which will ensure sustainability and security of supply,’ he said.
