Providers were not warned: fiber optic lines damaged during construction in central Bishkek

On May 13, fiber-optic communication lines were cut in Bishkek, leaving customers of several providers without internet access. The cause was construction work at the intersection of Chui, Abdrakhmanova, Kievskaya, and Shopokova streets, where the company Tashbolotholding is building a business center and underground parking lot.

Despite the fact that the Association of Telecommunications Operators (ATO) had prepared a notification in advance about possible communication disruptions due to the relocation of fiber-optic lines, the providers themselves only received this notification after the incident. This was reported by a representative of the mayor's office in comments on the Telegram channel “SegaKG.”

The document states that the line relocation work was planned for May 10-14, and that representatives of the contractor could be contacted for coordination. However, as it turned out, representatives of Tashboltholding themselves asked the day before to postpone the cable transfer by two days, until May 15, in order to complete preparations. However, on the morning of May 13, workers opened the cable channels and damaged the communication lines.

KyrgyzTelecom confirmed that the accident occurred at around 12:40 p.m. The company's specialists are currently working on site to restore the connection and return service to customers as soon as possible.

According to sources, a commission may be set up in the near future to investigate the incident.
