In hot and dry weather, water conservation becomes a key factor in maintaining crop yields and the stability of the agricultural sector.
‘Water is our most valuable resource. Rational use is not just a recommendation, it is the basis for the survival of agriculture,’ the minister stressed, addressing farmers, murabs and employees of district water management departments.
According to him, excessive or inefficient irrigation during the day leads to unnecessary moisture loss, negatively affects soil condition and can cause local disruptions in water access.
Specific recommendations include watering in the morning or evening, avoiding over-watering and immediately informing the muraba when watering is complete so as not to disrupt the water supply schedule for other users. The minister also stressed the importance of preventing losses in canals and switching to modern technologies such as drip and sprinkler irrigation.
Experts point out that irrigation problems are traditionally exacerbated in the summer months. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan's agricultural sector still depends on manual water management and outdated distribution systems.
‘Every drop of water is the future of the harvest. If we do not review our approach to its use now, we may face a drop in yields and an increase in prices for agricultural products in the autumn,’ Torobaev concluded.
