During the site visit, the mayor inspected the demolition work taking place on the grounds of the Kozhomkul Sports Palace, where a new swimming pool is planned to be built. The Sports Palace building was also inspected, and appropriate instructions were given regarding the identified problem areas.
The mayor emphasised that the concept for the upcoming renovation must be in keeping with the architectural style of the Sports Palace and the ‘Zhashtyk’ arena. Furthermore, he noted the need to preserve the facilities for the sports that were previously practised at the venue.
As a reminder, demolition work is taking place on the site where the new swimming pool will be built. Three excavators and 16 units of specialised equipment are being used at the site. The work is being carried out by the Capital Construction Department.
According to the findings of the State Institute of Seismic-Resistant Construction and Engineering Design, a meeting of the Bishkek City Council’s commission for the Pervomaisky Administrative District was held, and demolition work on the facility was carried out by order of the Bishkek City Council. The swimming pool was commissioned in 1974, was the only Olympic-standard facility in the country, and was closed in 2006.
The reconstruction project aims to modernise the infrastructure and create modern conditions for the development of sport, including water sports. The construction of the new swimming pool will expand training opportunities and improve access to sports facilities for the capital’s residents.
The mayor also inspected the progress of construction on the alternative road leading to Manas Airport. The section is 1.5 kilometres long and will feature four lanes, pavements, lighting, a drainage system and parking areas.
