07/12/2026, 11:01In Kyrgyzstan, the gross barley harvest has fallen to 449 thousand tonnes, which is 162.1 thousand tonnes, or 26.5 per cent, less than last year’s figure. At the same time, the area harvested has decreased by less than 1 per cent.
According to preliminary data from the National Statistics Agency, in 2025 barley was harvested from 245,900 hectares, whereas the previous year the harvested area stood at 247,800 hectares. The reduction amounted to 1,971 hectares, or 0.8 per cent.
Despite the slight reduction in area, the gross yield fell from 611.1 thousand to 449 thousand tonnes. This is 162.1 thousand tonnes, or 26.5 per cent, less than a year ago.
The main reason was a fall in yield. It fell from 24.7 to 18.3 centner per hectare, i.e. by almost 26 per cent.
The largest volumes of barley were harvested in the Chui Region — 166.6 thousand tonnes, the Issyk-Kul Region — 133.3 thousand tonnes, and the Osh Region — 50.9 thousand tonnes.
Compared with last year, barley production has fallen by more than a quarter. However, only a few regions, including the Issyk-Kul, Naryn and Osh regions, showed a positive trend in gross harvest figures.
