A complete ban is imposed on 12 states. This includes Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
In addition, 7 more countries were partially banned. These are Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Venezuela and Turkmenistan.
The measure was adopted after a comprehensive risk assessment, including the level of cooperation with the U.S. and statistics of visa violations. The document emphasizes that the restrictions apply to countries with a lack of effective vetting, high levels of visa overstays and signs of terrorist activity.
