Energy companies' losses grew by a third in 2024

In 2024, the most unprofitable sector of the Kyrgyz economy was electricity, gas and heat supply. This is reported in data from the National Statistics Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The total losses of enterprises in this sector reached 25.2 billion KGS, which is almost a third more than in 2023. The main share — 24.1 billion KGS — was accounted for by the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity.

The increase in losses is associated with high costs of production and procurement of energy resources, as well as infrastructure wear and tear, which increases maintenance costs. In 2023, similar losses amounted to about 18.5 billion KGS.
