Lawyer detained in Kant on suspicion of extortion

A private lawyer has been detained in Kant on suspicion of extorting money. This was reported by the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to the security service, on 19 May, a Kyrgyz citizen, ‘S.R.T.’, was detained as part of a criminal case under the article on extortion.

Investigators believe that the lawyer threatened and blackmailed a citizen, ‘A.M.M.’, demanding money in exchange for withdrawing the claims.

Following his arrest, the suspect was remanded in custody at the State Committee for National Security’s detention centre in accordance with Article 96 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. The agency reported that the investigation is ongoing.
