Legalization of cars with foreign license plates will begin in Kyrgyzstan

President Sadyr Zhaparov signed a decree aimed at legalizing cars with foreign registration plates. The purpose of the document is to eliminate legal uncertainty, protect the rights of owners and simplify the registration of vehicles used by individuals in the country.

The Cabinet of Ministers has been instructed to develop a legalization procedure in two months. The process will be held in three stages: first, cars with title documents will be legalized, then - cars without such documents, but in technically sound condition. At the last stage, owners will be given the opportunity to dispose of the vehicle, dismantle it for parts or take it out of the country.

In addition, new rules will be introduced for the initial registration of vehicles entering Kyrgyzstan, including the amount of the fee and the procedure for controlling the period of stay of vehicles with foreign license plates. It will also prohibit entry of vehicles owned by Kyrgyz citizens if they do not have title documents.

To prevent the illegal importation of cars, control measures at internal and external borders will be strengthened, and the Border and Tax Services, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and customs authorities will begin to actively detect and suppress violations. Imports of automobile bodies will also be temporarily restricted, except in cases stipulated by international treaties.
