02/24/2025, 16:59Households in Kyrgyzstan are increasingly dependent on remittances from abroad. According to official data, the average per capita income of households amounted to 11,095.41 KGS in the first six months of 2024.
The main portion of this income is formed by wages, which make up 41.18% (4,569.26 KGS) of the total income. The second most significant source is income from labor activities carried out abroad, that is, remittances from migrants. They account for 16.59% of household income.
This figure surpasses income from individual labor activities and social transfers, such as pensions and benefits. The trend of increasing dependence on remittances is clear: their share was 12.22% in 2020, which is 4.37 percentage points lower than in 2024.
In 2024, Kyrgyz citizens living abroad sent $2 billion 989.5 million to their homeland through remittance systems. This is $283.4 million more than in 2023. Moreover, over 93% of all remittances, or $2 billion 783.8 million, came from Russia.
