Former MP detained in Kyrgyzstan on charges of large-scale fraud

The State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic announced the detention of S.U.Ch., director of Bereke Construction Company LLC, who was previously a member of the Jogorku Kenesh from the Kyrgyzstan party. He is accused of large-scale fraud.

According to the investigation, in April 2019, S.U.Ch. and citizen A.A. entered into a share participation agreement for the construction of a multi-storey residential building in Osh. A.A. transferred a land plot of 45 acres to the project, and the construction company undertook to transfer 2,750 square metres of living space to him upon completion of construction.

However, as established by law enforcement agencies, S.U.Ch. failed to fulfil his obligations and illegally registered the land plot to his company.

The former deputy has been charged under Article 209 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic (‘fraud on an especially large scale’). The court has imposed a preventive measure in the form of detention for the period of the investigation.
