With the expansion of grain acreage, the gross harvest decreased significantly, while the production of a number of food crops increased noticeably.
Grain crops (excluding legumes, rice, and buckwheat) were harvested from an area of 606,000 hectares, which is 1.1% more than in 2024. However, the gross harvest amounted to 1.84 million tons. This is 15% lower than last year's result.
The average yield fell from 35.8 to 30.1 centners per hectare. The main decline is due to lower yields in the Chui and Talas regions. At the same time, the Chui region remains the largest producer, with more than 640,000 tons of grain (35%), including 180,000 tons of wheat and 171,400 tons of barley.
Wheat and barley showed the most significant decline:
Despite the decline in the grain group, growth was observed in niche and highly profitable segments. Thus, the harvest of a number of crops increased significantly:
At the same time, sugar beets and cotton showed a sharp decline. Sugar beet harvests fell by 37% to 532,900 tons, and yields fell by a third to 397 centners per hectare.
Raw cotton also showed a decline of 49% to 24.4 thousand tons, while maintaining a high yield of 38 cwt/ha. The volume of potatoes decreased to 1.17 million tons (-1.4%), but the yield increased to 181 cwt/ha. Legume production decreased to 79,600 tons (-3.6%).
Assessing the 2025 harvest, we can see a trend towards a shift in the sector towards crops with higher profitability.
