Driving lessons may be introduced in schools in Kyrgyzstan

Schools in Kyrgyzstan are considering the possibility of introducing driving lessons for high school students with subsequent issuance of driving licences. This issue was discussed on 14 March at a meeting of the parliamentary group ‘Mekenchil’.

The initiative was proposed by MP Bekmurza Ergeshov, who expressed concern about the quality of training in private driving schools, where schoolchildren are forced to apply. In his opinion, school-based driving instruction would help ensure a higher level of training for future drivers.

Education Minister Dogdurkul Kendirbayeva said the 12-year education programme will include in-depth study of subjects, including driving, but only for those who choose to go in that direction. In response to a clarifying question from an MP about the possibility of introducing driving lessons for all high school students, the Minister said that the department will consider the proposal.
