The Zhogorku Kenesh rejected three versions of the lyrics and music for the country's new anthem

Today, 27 January, the Committee on Constitutional Legislation, State Structure, Local Self-Government and Regulations of the Zhogorku Kenesh considered the committee's draft decision on the review of the new version of the lyrics and music for the national anthem of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The committee meeting was attended by representatives of the commission for selecting the best draft of the new version of the text and music of the national anthem, headed by the Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy, Mirbek Mambetaliev.

The Chairman of the Committee on Constitutional Legislation, State Structure, Local Self-Government and Regulations of the Jogorku Kenesh, Kurmankul Zulushev, noted that three versions of the text and music of the national anthem had been submitted to parliament for consideration. Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy Mirbek Mambetaliev spoke about the work of the commission to select the best draft of the new version of the text and music of the national anthem. Commission members Chynara Umetalieva and Syrbai Musaev emphasised that this was an important task, adding that not all composers are even capable of writing an anthem.

‘Over the course of a year, we reviewed all the works and selected three options’, — they said.

The chairman of the committee on constitutional legislation, state structure, local self-government and regulations of the Jogorku Kenesh, Kurmankul Zulushev, emphasised that none of the three proposed options surpassed the current anthem in terms of lyrics, content or musical arrangement and therefore could not be considered a viable solution.

Deputy Nurlanbek Azygaliev, noting that the anthem should lift the spirits of citizens by reminding them of common values, proposed to extend the competition and give the opportunity to submit new, stronger works that are fully consistent with the meaning of the anthem.

Following the discussion, the committee recommended that the Jogorku Kenesh reject all three versions of the text and music of the national anthem.
