Owners of holiday resorts will be obliged to clean up the beach areas of Issyk-Kul

The Cabinet of Ministers has submitted for public discussion a draft resolution that establishes, for the first time, a unified procedure for the thorough cleaning of beach areas from household waste using specialised equipment. The discussion will continue until 20 November.

The initiative is aimed at implementing the presidential decree on the protection of the Issyk-Kul ecosystem and involves a transition from manual cleaning to mechanised cleaning of the shores and underwater areas of the lake. To this end, beach cleaning machines and scuba gear will be used to clean the sand and bottom of the lake of plastic, nets and other debris without damaging the ecosystem.

In recent years, more than 70 tonnes of waste, including dozens of kilometres of fishing nets, have already been removed from the bottom of Issyk-Kul. According to the developers, the use of technology will speed up the cleaning process, improve sanitary safety and make beaches more attractive to tourists.

Responsibility for maintaining cleanliness is proposed to be assigned to the owners and tenants of guesthouses. They will finance the purchase of equipment, pay divers' wages and cover maintenance costs. The state budget will not incur any additional expenses.
