At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, a bill was approved in the first reading to amend the regulations governing military and alternative service. The document provides for an increase in payments for a number of categories.
Earlier, Akchabar reported that deputies opposed the increase in payments, stating that it was unacceptable and could have negative consequences for the population.
According to the bill:
- Citizens aged 22 to 40 who are not performing military service will have to pay 75,000 KGS for one month of military service (currently 50,000 KGS). Those who are performing alternative military service may undergo one month of military service at their own request. The fee for them is also 75,000 KGS;
- Citizens under the age of 30 who have a higher education and are included in the first category of the reserve during military registration, who wish to undergo a one-month officer training program to obtain an officer rank, will have to pay 90,000 KGS (currently 70,000 KGS);
- 25,000 KGS (currently 18,000 KGS) for those who will perform alternative types of work due to family circumstances;
- For citizens performing alternative service due to health reasons — 40,000 KGS (currently 25,000 KGS);
- Citizens who are members of religious organizations registered in the country and who are prohibited by religious beliefs from bearing arms and performing military service, as well as persons wishing to perform public works, will pay 50,000 KGS (currently 25,000 KGS);
- Citizens aged 25 and older who have not completed military or alternative service and who do not wish to complete one month of military service will be able to obtain a second-category military ID card by paying 50,000 KGS (currently 25,000 KGS).
In addition, according to the draft law, the law “On Military Duty” will not specify the exact amount of the fee for alternative service or one month of military service. The amount of the fee will be determined by the government.
